I've searched long and hard for a foundation that gives medium buildable coverage where needed but gives a beautiful radiant glow. What I've found when makeup companies say glowy, radiant or dewy, it's usually a code name for sheer coverage which is fine if that's what you're after but I want more... And I think this is it!
I've been wearing the Dior Star Foundation quite a bit over the past few months and I feel I can really give a good overview of this foundation, which is perfect for any ladies who have oily skin like me. I do think that this foundation could be amazing for dry skin as well because of the moisturising properties they've added into this foundation. As you can see from the picture, the Dior Star gives a beautiful radiance but is truly buildable coverage which I am loving!
What Dior say -
'Inspired by the professional illuminating techniques and expertise of its makeup artists, Dior invents Diorskin Star, its 1st brightening foundation: a weightless fluid capable of instantly and lastingly recreating the spectacular and perfecting light of Dior studios.
- Make-up FinishBare skin effect, natural healthy glow
- The complexion is instantly more luminous and visibly evener.
- Anti-"light trap" skincare ingredients help reduce dark areas, pigment spots and redness.
A new generation of hollow silica beads captures and diffuses light in a correcting halo with no shine. At the same time, colour-filter pigments neutralize colour imbalances to recreate the perfect light.
Day after day, the complexion is clarified, purer, more dazzling.'
I've personally always gone for matte foundations. I just always feel that they give much better coverage and last longer on skin like mine. In the past to get the glowy finish, I've mixed foundations in with a moisturiser or added in liquid illuminators but I find that they don't last too long on me and the overall look tends to look far to shiny. With the Dior Star however, I felt it last for atleast 5 hours before I had to blot my face down and powder it, which is fine by me since I'm impressed that it lasts more than an hour on me without looking like a massive cakey puddle! On a friend of mine who has normal skin, it's easily lasted her 8 hours and I'm pretty sure for the dryer skins, it will last a lot longer!
Skin Prep - I did use an Oil Control Lotion & Mattifying Primer prior to foundation application as well as setting my T-Zone with a translucent water based powder after.
On days when my skin behaves a bit more normal usually during the Autumn/Winter months I feel this would be my go to base as it covers up minor imperfections whilst still looking undetectable on the skin. It is quite liquidy, very similar to the Urban Decay Naked Foundation, but much more lightweight in texture. It's quite a strange finish actually, it's not shiny and definitely not matte, it's more like a satin or velvet like finish. I like applying this with a brush and then either my fingers or a Beauty Blender.
It has a bit of a scent to it which I don't mind but if you find that fragrances bother you, do not worry, it's very soft and I found that passed very quickly. I would recommed this to everybody since it's really a good all rounder. It's got 16 shades and has a variety of undertones with some true yellow undertones without you resembling a Simpsons character! Additionally it has a fairly high SPF of 30+ making it suitable for everyday wear.
- Lightweight & Unique texture. Very Natural.
- Light to Medium Buildable Coverage.
- 16 Shades in various Undertones.
- 5 hours wear on Oily Skin, but on dry skin - Very Long Wearing.
- Gorgeous Radiant Glow without looking Greasy or Slicked up.
- Price, £32.50.
- Slight Scent (It didn't bother me but may bother sensitive skins...?)
- Glass Bottle, harder to travel with.
So there you have it. My slightly long winded post on the Dior Star Foundation which was released in 2014. (I still can't believe we are in 2016 - Where is time flying?)
