Early this year, I was asked to do Make up & Hijab styling for Hijab Jewel's latest Spring/Summer Collection again. I had such a fun time working with the lovely ladies behind Hijab Jewels as well as with Halima who was the photographer, that of course I agreed to do it again.
The model, Inna, who I had worked with on the first HJ shoot is such a natural beauty, I was glad to be working on her gorgeous face again.
I always make sure to discuss the makeup brief and hijab styling with the client before hand - it allows me to prepare better and be able to pick up any specific products if need be. For example Inna wanted to try an alternative lash glue since she was trying to avoid using DUO lash glue so I picked up some HOUSE OF LASHES Glue especially for her.
Hijab Jewels & me had already discussed the kind of makeup they wanted as well as the hijab styles that would be best suited, which typically depends on the face shape & materials I am given to work with.
The last time I worked on Inna I created a subtle, soft & fresh for the first beauty look - I created it to be universally flattering on absolutely everyone.
This time however I went in with more definition on the eyes with a lot more eyeliner to create that smokier eye. I kept the lips neutral with the perfect nude for Inna - something just a bit more darker than her natural lip colour.
Skin - I started off by prepping Inna's dry skin with Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrate, it's one of my favourite moisturisers and a solid kit staple. Whilst I waited on the moisturiser to absorb into her skin, I quickly brushed through her hair & put it into a bun using an extra large hair donut & a hijab volumiser.
I stuck with the same foundation & concealing routine as last time as Inna tells me she usually gets allergic reactions and when she shot with me last time, her skin stayed in good condition so I really didn't want to experiment. I applied a very thin thin layer of Make Up For Ever HD Foundation to Inna's skin & then concealed any blemishes, problem areas & dark circles with Hard Candy Glamouflage Heavy Duty Concealer. I prefer using high coverage products as I can always sheer them down and they don't look cakey; Whereas with light to medium coverage products, it's very hard to layer them and avoid getting that dreaded cakey look.
I set the base with with the CHANEL Poudre Universelle Libre in the shade Translucent. It gives a lovely finish without sitting on the skin & causing any dry patches or cakeyness. The powder is really light & finely milled. It looks perfect on the skin without creating any flashback or white areas like certain other powders can do.
Eyes - With the base done, I moved onto the Eyes & primed the lids with MAC Soft Ochre. It completely blanks out Inna's lids and hides the veins that can sometimes be very apparent, it also kept any liner/shadow from budging through out the day. I then applied a Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Eye Shadow Palette on the lid, through her crease & along the bottom lash line before blending out to softly give dimension to Inna's eyes. To highlight the inner eye, brow bone & lid, I used a soft shimmery gold shadow from KIKO.
I softly brushed some Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder through the eyebrows & then used a spoolie to shape them up. I finished off the eyes with a pair of Ardell Wispies, blending them in with Inna's own lashes using Charlotte Tilburys Full Fat Lashes Mascara, & hid the lash band with INGLOT Gel Liner in black.
Finally I finished off the Eyes by applying the Inglot Gel Liner to the water line and smudging slightly to get that smokey eye.
Cheeks - On the cheeks I swished on a Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Blush Ecstasy mixed with a bit of NARS Deep Throat.
Lips - For the lips since I wanted something natural and long lasting, I prepped Innas lips with the Bubblegum Lip Scrub from Lush Cosmetics (**Kit Fave**) and applyed some Carmex lip balm. After a few minutes I blotted off the excess moisture & applied a lipliner from MAC in Soar. I then finished the lips with a mix of 3 OCC Liptars.
I hope you guys liked this product break down and it proved helpful for a lot of you. Let me know what you think or if I missed anything out.
