I’m baaack! I’ve been super duper busy & just distracted in general but decided to quickly put this post up … Anyways I’ll just cut to the chase & get into reviewing one of my most loved & used products; the famous Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars.
After hearing so many artists gushing about keeping these in their kits I was itching to try them out especially after seeing all the colours on the OCC site. I brought my first one from www.lovemakeup.co.uk to try out & I simply fell in love with the texture, pigmentation & the longevity of the product. No wonder its a cult product!! Obviously if you’re in the US then just buy them from here: http://occmakeup.com. They retail for around £12 or $18 depending on which country you live in.
I first got my Lip Tar 3 years ago and I have been continuously picking them up one by one to use on my models & clients ever since.
This what OCC says about their Lip Tars:
“OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of lipstick with the ease of application of a gloss, applying slick and moist, before drying down to a matte finish. Lip Tar contains an unprecedented amount of pigment for ultra-saturated color – a little goes a very, very long way! Whether worn alone or meant to be mixed, Lip Tar presents a limitless selection of shades to artists, enthusiasts and everyday wearers alike!
-Contains Organic Hemp Oil & Soy-Derived Vitamin E, for a finish that feels as good as it looks! Paraben-Free courtesy of refreshing Peppermint Oil. 100% Vegan & Gluten-Free.”
The description is spot on! The Lip Tars really do deliver when needed which is what I love about them. The product is a hit with my brides as not only do they look good & taste nice but they dry down from a wet gloss to a nice matte finish which is ideal for a bride who doesn’t want that sticky feeling.
Here are the Lip Tars I have in my collection so far:
They’re just so versatile, that I’ve used them for blush and I know some creative people have actually used them as eye shadow!
- Ultra pigmented colour. A tiny bead of product goes a very long way. Less is definitely more when it comes to this product.
- There’s a stunning array of gorgeous colours from neutral Nudes to vivid Pinks & Reds to crazy Greens, Yellows & Blues…
- Can be mixed with other lip tars to create unique shades.
- Hygienic & easy to use packaging.
- Last for ages so worth the price.
- Supplied with a mini lip brush & plastic zip pouch.
- Use very lightly on the skin as liquid blush or even as eye shadows. Also can be used lightly on the lips as a stain or really layered for a full on pop of colour.
Cons: (There really isn’t anything bad to say, however…)
- The Lip Tars do feather out or bleed on lips sometimes so a lip liner is necessary.
- Lips must be exfoliated & moisterised really well, otherwise the lip tars can settle into fine lines.
My 2 favourite colours to use are Marion & Black Dahlia. Marion is a beautiful peachy Nude, and I like to use it especially on Brides as it suits soo many skin tones. Black Dahlia, I use on myself. Despite it being the ‘blackest blackened Red’, it’s the only colour I will actually wear throughtout the day, instead of just swatching it on my lips for 30 seconds and then wiping it off.
On a final note if you are starting out as an MUA, then I would recommend getting the primary colours (Red, Blue & Yellow) along with Black and White first (Tarred & Feathered). That way you can use Colour Theory to custom mix any shade for your clients and for shoots without having to purchase all the shades at once and going bankrupt!
